Quintarelli Ca' del Merlo 2012, Veneto I.G.T., Italy: Quintarelli Ca' Del Merlo 2012 is a Ripasso/Amarone-style Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Nebbiolo red wine blend from the Veneto wine region. Full-bodied, concentrated with layers of ripe red cherry, red berry, blueberry, dark chocolate, tar, licorice and spicy flavours vibrant and elegant on the palate. Grapes are sourced from a single vineyard with half of the grapes pressed immediately after harvest and with the other half dried for two months Amarone style. Primary fermentation starts after a few days maceration using indigenous yeast. The wine is racked and rests until February when it is racked on its Amarone lees and a secondary fermentation. It then spends seven years maturing in large Slovenian oak barrels. Named in honour of the former winemaker, Giuseppe Quintarelli, who passed in 2012.
